Family Child Care
The Family Child Care (FCC) office has provided this child care option for McConnell AFB since 1989. The program offers flexibility in child care not available in the Child Development Center or School Age Program. Child care providers may choose to be open for full time, part time or hourly care. They may also choose the time of day and days of the week they provide care including night, day, weekend, shift care or short TDY care. Another advantage to McConnell families is that the FCC provider cares for a small group of children in a home environment.
One of the functions of the FCC program is to provide formal training and oversight for military spouses living in base housing who wish to become licensed as child care providers and state licensed or registered spouses and retirees off base who wish to be affiliated with the FCC. Orientation training sessions are routinely taught in order to make the program fully accessible to individuals.
Other base agencies help provide initial training for applicants giving them the opportunity to understand from the beginning how everyone works together in FCC. Safety and child care issues are addressed in the training along with guidelines for operating a business in the home. Applicants receive 24 hours of orientation training. FCC specific training sessions are held monthly to provide information of direct interest to providers. These two-hour sessions include a key topic plus educational opportunities, activity ideas, modules and assessment scheduling and so much more. Guest speakers are invited to cover mandatory training as well as topics of interests. Home visits are accomplished monthly to assure quality, safe child care for McConnell’s families.

Announcement
To parents and base housing residents, a license is required for providing child care in any base housing unit. Child care is defined as caring for other families’ children more than 10 hours a week. (Example: four children for three hours, one afternoon is twelve hours), on a regular basis in an assigned government owned housing unit. There are a few exceptions to this definition that the Family Child Care staff would be happy to discuss with you. If you have questions or know someone providing child care without a license, call the Family Child Care office at 759-5783
